The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
