Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
